McSweeney's Internet Tendency: North Korea's Most Controversial Standup Comic Performs at The People's Shack of Laffs.

Another classic McSweeny’s post:

Oh, you guys are gonna love this. I read something about Dear Leader in the paper today. Really, you can look it up, this was actually in the paper today: “Dear Leader to Live for 200 Years.” Can you believe this? I didn’t make this up, this was actually printed! 200 years!? Everyone knows that Kim Jong Il is immortal and if he leaves the Earth he will do so on the gilded wings of a majestic dragon!

North Korea sentences 2 US journalists to 12 years hard labor

This pisses me off so badly.  Seriously, fuck Kim Jung Il, his father, his 3rd son or whoever is going to take over when he finally fucking dies, and anyone else who is in cahoots with him.  They have repressed, starved, and massacred their own people, driving their economy into the ground while they swim around in gold swimming pools and drive Mercedes.  Now, sentencing two American citizens to “reform through 12 years of hard labor” in a secret court?  I really hope Obama/Clinton put their foot down on this one.  Between this and all of the nuclear and missile testing going on, it’s become clear that they’re not to be negotiated with.  If they want to provoke and threaten, there has to be repercussions, and they need to be strong.  They need to wake up in the morning to some fucking craters where their government buildings used to be.  We’ve been buying the same horse twice for way too long, and it’s time to stop.

It’s easy to forget about them, but I feel so badly for the people of North Korea.  It’s a humanitarian disaster unlike any other, as they actually have a very stable government and no internal conflict.  They are starving because they have a Communist government that spends all their money on their military, blocking the internet, parades, and caviar instead of taking care of their people, and for that the ones responsible all deserve to suffer.
